Plug types used in Iceland

Electricity in Iceland

Before you pack: Iceland uses Types C and F, 230 V and 50 Hz. No surprises on voltage: Iceland runs at 230 V, the same range as at home in the UK.

The same socket system is used in Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway and Austria, so one adapter covers all of them. Nearby but different: Cyprus, the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man – an adapter for Iceland will not fit there. Across Europe this setup is common: 31 of 50 countries.

Protective earth

Grounded and ungrounded sockets may occur

Iceland has sockets with a protective earth (Type F) and without (Type C). A plug that fits mechanically does not guarantee earthing.
