Class I and Class II appliances
Class I appliances rely on protective earth. Class II appliances use double or reinforced insulation and normally have a two-pin connection. Check the appliance symbol and manufacturer information rather than judging by size alone.
The complete earth path
If any link is missing, earth protection is not preserved.
- ✓The device plug has an earth contact.
- ✓The adapter accepts and connects that earth contact.
- ✓The destination plug provides the correct earth contact.
- ✓The wall socket and installation are actually earthed.
Why physical fit is not enough
Some plug shapes can be inserted into sockets that do not connect their earth contact. A technically responsible recommendation must distinguish 'fits' from 'fits with earth preserved'.
