Types A and B, 110 V, 60 Hz – those are the basics for electricity in Taiwan. The grid in Taiwan delivers 110 V. Dual-voltage gear copes; single-voltage 230 V devices do not. The grid runs at 60 Hz. Chargers do not care; mains-synchronised clocks and simple motors do.
Handy for multi-stop trips: Japan use the same plug types. Travelling further to Russia, Hong Kong and Brunei means a different adapter. Across Asia this setup is fairly rare: 2 of 50 countries.
Protective earth
Grounded and ungrounded sockets may occur
Not every socket in Taiwan is earthed: Type B yes, Type A no. Class I appliances belong in an earthed outlet.
Types A and B – that is what you will find in Taiwan (110 V, 60 Hz).
What voltage does Taiwan use?
Taiwan supplies 110 V. Dual-voltage chargers are fine; 230 V-only appliances need a converter.
An adapter changes the plug shape only, not voltage or frequency. Taiwan supplies 110 V at 60 Hz – check the rating plate on your device. How to read a rating plate →
If a socket gets hot, crackles or smells burnt, unplug the device straight away.
